Other papers include note, 10 Dec. 1863, signed by J.W. Bobo, at Camp Williams, S.C., granting a 10 day furlough for Private N.J. Cook, to visit his home in Spartanburg District, S.C.; letter, 21 Dec. 186[4?], West Springs, S.C. [Union County], to Dear Brother, re sending clothing, flour, whiskey, and ten dollars; items documenting life on the home front include printed form, May 1864, "to be exhibited by every Farmer, Planter or Grazier, or other person who slaughters hogs, to the Assessor ..." documenting "Am[oun]t of Bacon due government"; account, 1861-1866, listing clothing and other expenses for Booker [Cook?]. Letter, 16 Jan 1865, "Line of Battle on Combahee River Near Pocotaligo, S.C.," N.J. Cook to "Dear Mother and Sisters," reporting that the troops had taken a train from camp near Charleston to this area and were now marching toward Branchville, anticipating that Federal troops may head toward Branchville, S.C., or Augusta, Ga., hoping to receive anticipated package from home to supplement rations, "What we get is very good but not enough." Mention of General McLaws and General Hardee.
